Choeur de Jeunes Filles
Graciela Rodo Boulanger

We are pleased to present the renowned works of Bolivia’s Graciela Rodo Boulanger.  Shaded and often textured, neutral backgrounds, inspired by the landscapes of Bolivia, allow a simplistic slate on which the vibrant colors, influenced by the colorful clothing passed down by the Incan culture rest. These bold colors portray children snuggling their favorite pets and swinging through the warm breeze of summer, while some are active cycling, playing football or dancing gracefully in a ballet recital and others enjoy the pleasures of nature.

Celebrating the joy and vibrance found in the lives of children, the works of Graciela Rodo Boulanger exude a universal feeling.  Philip Heying, in Graciela Rodo Boulanger: Recent Work 1997 – 1998, states, “…her works expresses a playful, spontaneous, inventive, uninhibited, energetic, unprejudiced, generous, affectionate, curious and enthusiastic youthfulness, to which viewers of her work can recognize, share and aspire.”  These feelings are only achieved by using various mediums and techniques that she continues to develop by working with artists around the globe in different genres. Her techniques and color are unmatched and are described by Heying as, “…lyrical, ranging from shimmering opalescence to bold saturated primaries.  She uses line with a dancer’s grace. The geometries of her compositions are rhythmic, interlacing and both rigorous and spontaneous…”

We are pleased to present the intriguing works of Spain’s Josep Baqués.

Baqués is an artist with a vast professional career.  At the end of the sixties, he had his first solo exhibition and from that moment on, his work has been exhibited and appreciated in Catalonia and Spain, as well as abroad.  His exhibitions have prompted several artists to write about his art – having these essays published in newspapers, books and magazines.

Born on June 8, 1931 in Montmeló near Barcelona, Baqués spent his first years in the countryside, in an environment where direct contact with nature, the earth and its fruits, was his main focus in life.

Being a graphic designer provided him with the ability to master and experiment with techniques and composition.  The balance found in his compositions throughout his work is a reflection of the background acquired as a graphic designer.

Baqués is currently living a successful professional career.  He is known for his characteristic, friendly and out of the mainstream style, and has reached a laudable high-level technique.  Baqués will go on incorporating new material elements and new textures to his paintings as a result of a continuous study of his own work.
