DE Congratulates Rosana Sitcha

Spanish artist Rosana Sitcha has been named a finalist in two prestigious paintings competitions in Spain.

Sitcha’s Reflections XVI- London was selected from over 250 entries to be a finalist in the Young Iberian Painters Awards 2017, a noteworthy distinction. Furthermore, the painting On Deck II won a national award at the Lady of Carmen Navy Awards. Congratulations on your continued success, Rosana Sitcha!

Born in south-east of Spain in 1981, as a child Sitcha decided to pursue her passion for art. She attained a Fine Arts degree by San Carlos Faculty at the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 2005 where she specialised in drawing and painting. The young artist impressed her professors and completed training courses with many prestigious painters including Antonio López, Eloy Morales and Cristobal Gabarrón. She has worked as a full time painter since finishing her degree, and focuses her portfolio on urban landscapes and female portraits that are represented from very personal perspectives.

Her newest urban scenes offer viewers a first-person outlook on some of the busiest cities in the world. Instead of recreating the vastness of cities such as London, Madrid and New York, Sitcha closely crops each scene to reduce the scale of the surroundings and provide a more individualized approach. In Reflections XII- New YorkSitcha presents New York from a sidewalk vantage point. She strategically omits the height of the surrounding buildings and brings viewers’ attention to the fellow pedestrians shown walking in the immediate area. In contrast to scenes of urban isolationism such as Edward Hopper’s paintings of disengaged New Yorkers or Ernst Ludwig Kirschner’s claustrophobic sidewalks of Berlin, Sitcha’s cityscapes offer quiet moments in which the viewer may experience his or her own unique emotional response. Sitcha engages her audience and cleverly provides settings in which each person may determine the meaning.
